AI DISCOVERY, EXPLAINED

Does AI recommend your business?

Start by looking at the answers and their sources. A business name in an AI answer and a citation linking to your website are different observations.

What does Citequay check?

Citequay offers a free public website audit and paid AI citation research. The audit checks technical website evidence. The research asks a web-enabled API model six buyer questions about your business category and market, then shows the answers and source links. It records mentions separately from citations to your domain.

What is an AI citation?

A citation is a source link associated with an AI answer. Citequay counts a website citation when a returned source URL links to the target domain or one of its subdomains. A mention on a directory or an article about your business does not count as a citation to your website.

This distinction helps you inspect what the model actually sourced. A mention may still be interesting, but it does not establish that the answer used your website. Domain matching respects hostname boundaries, so an unrelated address containing your brand name is not counted as your website.

How does the research work?

  1. Confirm the business context. Enter the business name, category and target market. The category and market shape the questions. Your business name is kept out of the buyer questions and used to match the returned answers.
  2. Run the six-question sample. The report identifies the configured provider and model, the questions, time of the check, actual answers and returned sources. Failed or incomplete answers are shown separately.
  3. Inspect mentions and citations. Open the source pages and decide whether each observation is relevant. Other businesses in the sample are candidates to investigate, not automatically verified competitors.
  4. Optionally repeat the same questions once. Compare up to twelve observations using the same setup. Variation is part of the evidence; one answer does not establish a market position.

Does this show what every ChatGPT user sees?

No. Citequay uses the named model through an API. Consumer applications can use different models, retrieval systems, personalisation and locations. Results also change with prompts and time. Citequay does not reproduce every ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini or other consumer-app experience.

Is this an AI visibility ranking?

No. The citation rate is the share of successfully completed sample answers whose sources cite your website. It is not a market-wide recommendation score, a search position or an estimate of revenue lost to competitors. A small sample can help you form a question to investigate; it cannot establish how an entire market sees your business.

What can I improve after a check?

Use the website evidence to find specific work: clear service descriptions, accurate business details, useful page titles, accessible contact information and crawlable public content. Citequay turns findings into an action plan and downloadable implementation briefs. Review drafts for accuracy, publish through your website editor or web team, and re-audit the same scope to see which technical checks changed.

Better website information can make your business easier to understand. It does not guarantee that an AI system will cite it. To evaluate commercial impact, track qualified enquiries, registrations or purchases separately and avoid attributing every change to the audit.

What is free, and what is paid?

Your first public website audit is free, with no account or card required. You can create a free workspace to save reports within its allowance. Live AI citation research requires a paid plan: Monitor starts at A$49 per month, Grow at A$149 and Scale at A$299, with different allowances. Review the current pricing and inclusions before subscribing.
